Navy Boys

So there is this lady who lives across the street from me back home named Mrs. Freda. Mrs. Freda is your typical big hug’n, big kiss’n, loud laughing, and sweet Greek grandmother. When we see her we visit and she always likes to know what’s up in our lives. I say all of this to say, her grandson Lloyd is in the navy and stationed in Crete and on Columbus weekend he and a buddy flew to Istanbul and I got to see them! It was so great. We walked around the Grad Bazaar and had tea. They were so sweet and such wonderful gentlemen. They treated me very much like a lady. Now usually I would put up more of a fight because I am a tough kid and I can handle myself. The thing is I was so starved for love I let them dote on me with no hesitation. While me guard was down the Lord used this to bless me and show the genuine heart that can be behind chivalry. I am not sure how long these rose colored glasses will stay on but I was truly touched.

Then when the kids got home from school Benny was playing Legos in his room. Now very much like a mother, or a creeper I am not sure which, I stood by the door and listened to him play. Usually he plays and has the Lego men speak in Turkish but today he was singing. But he wasn’t singing some terrible American pop song he was singing one of the songs I sing to him at night. I sing him two songs each night, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” and “The Stead Fast Love of The Lord Never Ceases.” Somewhere over the rainbow is his favorite but he wasn’t singing that one he was singing the other. He didn’t really know the words but he was trying and singing it over and over as he played as if almost subconsciously. I was floored. I believe the Lord has sewed those verses into his heart. Either that or, just like Hitler, I have begun to indoctrinate the youth. I am not sure but I believe it’s the first.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases

His mercies never come to an end

They are new every morning

New every morning

Great is thy faithfulness

Oh Lord

Great is thy faithfulness
